Study Abroad

The department encourages students to spend an extended period abroad, particularly during dissertation research.  The department will help students arrange this directly within the framework of existing agreements and foreign study programs.  Students should take the initiative to investigate other funding prospects, including Duke international fellowships, Fulbrights, AAUW, FLAS, Chateaubriand and other foundation grants.  Students who have sought but not secured external funding for dissertation research abroad will ordinarily be supported by departmental funds.  Consult with your faculty advisor and the DGS.
